The Department of Information Technology was established
in the year 2000. Based on the emerging requirement of the global market,
which is totally backed up by' IT, the following courses are offered by the
department.

industry and to provide the right grounds to facilitate placement.

The department of Information Technology was incorporated in the year
1999-2000 placed at the modern San Jose block of Fatima college. The
department of Information Technology is a bridge between the expanding needs
of the modern job market and the academics. Though a new department, the
commitment of staff and the students have really put the department in the
spotlight.
Advantages of Being Autonomous
Both M.Sc.(IT&M) and M.S,. (CS&IT) are offered under the autonomous
syllabus. Being autonomous~ added an advantage, by permitting independent
and constant updating of the syllabus to keep abreast with the rapidly
changing real world. The examination patterns are designed to bring out the
real credits of a candidate beyond paper based performance 500/0 of the
internal assessment is based on the individual performance of the candidate
in over all activities~ including class room participation, presentations
and innovations and so on.
This bringstl1e overall personality of the student into consideration for a
grade.
Course Methodology
Besides regular classroom sessions, students indulge in activities which
bring their wholesome strength. The syllabus is delivered through a series
of Class Room Lecturers, Computer Labs, Seminars, Interactive guest
Lectures, Group Discussions and Quizzes, Industrial Visits, Managerial
Workshops, Project Works. This removes the monotony out of. learning and
makes course practically edged.
Lab Facility
Computer LabThe department has its own computer lab, equipped with around 50 state .of
the art multimedia PC's connected to the internet via ISDN lines. This helps
students to update knowledge through the internet on a daily basis. besides
practicing on the latest software tools.
Browsing Centre
The computer lab has a number of licensed software's including Microsoft
Technologies (NT/VB/SQL Server, MS-Office and so on) and Multimedia packages
ring Flash and Dream Weaver ).
Personality Development Workshops
Many personality development programs are conducted from time to time for
the benefit of students. They cover various aspects like communication
skills, personality development, building executive skill training
Students Activities
We believe strongly that mete classroom sessions are not enough for a fresh
student to face the job market. It makes a. lot of sense to involve students
into activities which would bring them closer to the reality. Activities are
chosen with the basic idea to help students understand the working of
theories and concepts in the real world.
Committees with high academic value were formed. The committee members were
elected by the students, from among volunteers. The office bearers have no
excuses to offer but to achieve excellence in their duties.
Explore Up Committee
This is. the committee for mini projects. The role of this <;committee is to
bring out the real talents of the students and in exploring the real life
happenings. The class is divided into various groups.. group is allotted a
topic for research. The duration of the project is generally 7-15 days, at
the end of the project there is a presentation from each group on its
findings. Thus in this way .the hidden potential of the student is exploited
in all possible ways.
PRAC-study
This committee has taken up the responsibility of arranging the industrial
visits. The primC!1ry:motive of this committee is to abstract what really is
happening in the industry. This will supplement our theoretical knowledge.
VIP Views
The committee plays the key role of identifying areas which need exposure as
gathered from experts from the industry. The committee analyses various
personalities with their background data and find the best suited "GURU" that
they can learn from. Performing all needed formalities of inviting them
tofJresenttl1emselves through seminars / guest lectures/workshops is the
primary role of the members of the committee.
