WEAT (Women Empowerment Animation and Training Programme)

To train the illiterate women in the coaching centers in the village and they are trained in allied trades, short term modules, art and crafts and home sciences. |

| • | To enable women to avail self-employment schemes of the government through appropriate counseling. |
| • | To bring about attitudinal change through morale boosting and confidence building exercises. |

Highlights of Activities
Adult education centers have been established in five villages.
Teachers recruited from the same locality, conduct literacy for women in
villages.
This programme attracts many enthusiastic women of all ages and their joy at
accomplishing a task as simple as writing their own names is rewarding.
Peripheral Activities:
Training/crash courses:
Short term course like preparation of detergent powder, soap oil, phenyl,
candle and mushroom cultivation etc., are given to promote self-employment.
Non-formal Education
This activity has been extremely successful. Literacy coaching centers have
been established for illiterate women in ten villages. The teachers are
recruited from the same locality. Their progress is monitored continuously.
This programme attracts many enthusiastic women of all ages and their joy at
accomplishing a task as simple as writing their own names, is very
rewarding.
Remedial Coaching
In the adapted villages, school going children are given free coaching
classes to cope up with their studies. As individual attention is given,t he
children have shown significant improvement. The villages are as follows

Programmes in the adapted villages:
•Motivation to join training courses at WEAT
•Effective functioning of the Literacy group
•Encourage and strengthen individual participation
•Awareness on health and hygiene, Aids and environmental sanitation
•Giving importance of education to children
•Awareness on Social and Economic Status
•Conducted allied activities such as preparation of detergent powder, soap
oil, phenyl, candle and mushroom cultivation etc., are given to promote
self-employment.
•Training programme on Vermicompost for the farmers.
•Cultural troop for the school going children
•Campaigning:
To create awareness on the objectives of the WEAT project, the programme
promoters are sent to nearby villages. They hold meeting s with self-help
groups, NGO’s/ Panchayat leaders and with their help they enroll women for
various training courses.
Follow up:
Women who have completed the courses are given counseling for self
employment, either with local resources or through availing financial aid
through GTovt. Schemes or Bank loans. The programme coordinator keep in
touch with them and visit their working sites to offer suggestions for
further developments.

WEAT is an extension center, managed by a full-time co-ordinator to train
and empower. Since its inception in Oct. 2004 till Aug. 2005, 131 students
are benefited through WEAT.
At present 10 women who have completed the training are profitably putting
their skills to use while staying at home. 22 are preparing pickles, jam
etc., on a small scale. 11 are engaged in Bakery and Confectionery projects.

through Govt. schemes or bankloans. The programme coordinators keep in touch

developments.
